"Rude staff"

Me and my sister came into the store as we always do because we live right across the road from here, and we are both exempt from wearing a face covering from the Covid-19 pandemic. Anyways this is how the conversation went between us and the staff.

Staff 1: customers in here are so rude didn’t get a hello back when I said hello twice.

Staff 2: well it’s rude when they don’t wear a face covering.

* aiming at me and my sister while she was serving us.

Me: excuse me but I am exempt from wearing face coverings.

Staff 2: well where is your lanyard for proof. Because I need proof to see.

Me: it is here in my pocket, I just don’t like putting it around my neck as I have had traumatic experience and a hidden disability.

Staff 2: well you should have it on so I don’t have to ask you.

Me: is it such a task for you to ask me if I’m exempt? And anyways by law it states that I do not need to prove evidence to show that I am exempt and if you don’t like it, that is discrimination.

The Coronavirus Regulations clearly say that people who CANNOT wear a face mask are exempt from doing so, even when the law requires masks to be worn. So, requiring everybody to wear masks in a shop, without taking account of people who are exempt, is clearly against the Coronavirus Regulations.

The Government say on their website that exempt people should not be asked to produce evidence of exemption.

And also may I imply that the reason I have my sunflower lanyard is because I have a hidden disability so I may not look like I have a disability, but the staff member didn’t have no right into being this rude towards us and actually make an effort into doing her job then being lazy and making snarky comments about every customer who shops with them..
